Fastbrick Robotics has developed the world's latest innovative advancement in mobile robotic technology that will vastly improve the safety, speed, accuracy, coast and waste management of the global brick and block construction industry. Fastbrick Robotics is currently developing the Hadrian X commercial prototype.

Will bricklaying costs be competitive with current manual methods?

We aim to be cost competitive with current methods, and deliver time savings and efficiencies that will benefit builders and homebuyers.

How much will the Hadrian X cost?

Cost modelling and business model frameworks will be communicated more accurately to the market as we further develop the manufacturing, distribution and support modelling.

How long will it take to complete the brickwork on a home?

Depending on the type of brick used and the complexity of design anywhere from 1-3 days.

How many bricks does it lay in an hour?

  • Bricks are measures in SBE or Standard Brick Equivalents
  • A Standard Brick Equivalent is the size of a standard house brick.
  • The Hadrian X machine will lay 1000+ SBE per hour
  • The machine is capable of laying 1 x 15 SBE block every 20-30 seconds
  • Although the machines can lay nearly every type of brick manufactured around the world, our target is 150+ Super Bricks per hour.
  • These are equal to 15+ Standard Brick Equivalents (SBE's) in size.
  • The Hadrian X can also work 24/7 in the right situations, and due to the high level of accuracy, following trades can now pre-manufacture other components from the 3D CAD design

What type of mortar and adhesive system will the Hadrian X use?

Modern adhesives and/or thin bed mortar will be used with the Fastbrick system. This has been chosen for reasons of productivity, environment, strength, all weather suitability, availability and ease of use. These products are currently used in many countries around the world. Using precision bricks and blocks that have interlocking spiggots suitable for rendering remove the need to apply adhesive to the vertical perps.

What type of Bricks can the Hadrian X lay?

The Hadrian X has been designed to handle a universal range of products up to 500mm x 250mm x 250mm in size.

How many homes per year can each Hadrian X machine build?

The Hadrian X machine can build a standard sized home every 2 days. In the right environment and working 24/7, this number could be between 100 and 300 homes per year per machine.

How does the Hadrian X machine work?

Using our bespoke software TAD, we generate a 3D model of the home, feed the data into Hadrian X and the machine prints the structure course by course just like a 3D printer, including all cutting and routing of the bricks for electrical and plumbing services so the finished structure is ready for first fixing within days. No human hands need to touch a brick during the loading, cutting and laying process.

Does the Hadrian X machine address current OH&S regulations?

  • Improving worksite Safety is a high priority for Fastbrick Robotics. We can now realise a worksite without shovels, wheelbarrows, sand, water, heavy cement bags, cement dust, planks, scaffold, the carrying, stacking or laying of bricks, or the manual placement of heavy lintels for the bricklayer or on-site labourer.
  • The Machine Operator can operate the Hadrian X from the comfort of the cab, or walk the site and operate the machine by remote HMI control.
  • The Bricklayer is now the supervisor of the site, the machine and laying process, and provides the Quality Assurance for the builder on the finished product.
  • The Hadrian X will reduce workplace injuries and strains caused by repetitive tasks Having a clean work site will reduce the risk of slips, trips and falls.
  • Minimise exposure of workers to extreme weather conditions and only fully trained and compliant FBR staff will be on site during laying operations.

Have windows, doors, lintels and other elements been considered?

Yes, all these factors have been included in the Hadrian X machine and system. Door and window frames are lowered in from the top once the height has been reached, or fitted as split frames after the build process is complete. The Hadrian X or the onsite Telehandler will place the lintels into position. Completed walls will also have the channels routed to accept electrical wiring and plumbing which is completed in a dust and noise suppressed section of the machine prior to laying.

What does the future look like for current bricklayers?

This technology is the next evolution for bricklayers, enabling them to transition from laborious and unsafe practices to being machine operators and site quality supervisors providing a physically sustainable career path. Fastbrick will endeavor to employ qualified bricklayers for site operations and we have built a network of current Bricklayers that will transition over to this method as the machines enter service. Bricklaying is not viewed as a popular career choice for 21st century school leavers and this was a major factor in the development of the technology. 

Would this make it cheaper to build a home or commercial complex.

By reducing construction time and increasing the accuracy of the end product, we aim to reduce the build time of a standard home, which should equate to savings for builders and homebuyers.

How accurate is the finished product?

Designing and building from a 3D CAD model allows for high accuracy. The Hadrian X Machine will complete its work accurately and to renderable quality.

Are there any other applications for the technology?

Yes, there are many other applications for the Fastbrick Robotics intellectual property. Housing Estate retainer walls, freeway sound-wall and crash barrier construction and high-rise infill are likely expansion areas in the future. Outside of construction, we see many areas that will require high-level accuracy/real-time compensation when using robots outside of controlled environments.

Will I be able to buy a machine?

Fastbrick Robotics will be commissioning the first Hadrian X machines in Australia. The global demand for the machines would indicate that a number of different business models will be pursued to ensure that our Patented 3D automated construction system enters the mainstream in as many countries as possible. Further information about business opportunities will be released in due course.

How much would a Hadrian machine net per year.

Depending upon the hours of use, environment and the brick/block product used, this number would vary. We anticipate that investors in FBR and the technology will reap solid returns throughout the lifecycle of the machines.

Will the machine work on a standard home building site?

Yes, the machine has been designed with the smallest possible worksite footprint while maintaining a 30m reach for long narrow lots and multi-unit development sites. This opens up the possibilities for tract or sub-division work as well as residential in-fill and commercial sites.

How well is the technology protected?

The technology is comprehensively patent protected in the USA, China, Australia, Canada, UK, and many countries within the EU. FBR's patent suite is being continually upgraded and expanded, and as new markets open to the company this work will continue into the future.
